QLED (Quantum dot LED) is a display technology that uses phosphorescent crystals to improve the LED backlight on an LCD TV. Samsung launched its first QLED television in 2017, with a wide range of 4K TVs. These LCD-based TVs, which come in sizes up to 98 inches, are augmented with quantum dot nanocrystals. QLED TVs are highly admired for their superb viewing quality and are the only LCD technology televisions today that give real competition to OLED TVs.

Response Time

Both TVs offer quite short response times. The Q80T has a response time of just 10.1 ms. In comparison, the Q90T’s response time is 10.6 ms. Therefore, the Q80T is marginally ahead of the Q90T in terms of response time.

Resolution

The Q80T and Q90T QLEDs are exactly the same when it comes to the resolutions they offer. Both are 4K-capable. Here are the resolutions offered by these TVs: 4K/120Hz, 4K/60Hz, 1440p/120Hz, 1440p/60Hz, 1080p/120Hz, and 1080p/60Hz.

Contrast Ratio/Black Level

While both TVs offer excellent contrast ratios, the Q90T is slightly better at it. But, when it comes to black uniformity, the Q80T outperforms the Q90T. So, it all comes down to your personal preference whether you value contrast ratio more or black uniformity.

Peak Brightness

The Q90T, with Quantum HDR 16X, offers a wider range of brightness and color for superior peak brightness performance that’s significantly better than the Q80T’s Quantum HDR 12X. The Q90T can get impressively bright in both HDR and SDR with a peak brightness of up to 630 nits. In comparison, the Q80T’s peak window is only around 430 nits.

Color

Both the Q80T and the Q90T have a great color gamut. But, if you compare the two, the Q90T outperforms the Q80T in contrast ratio numbers. It produces better dark and saturated colors. The Q80T, on the other hand, struggles to reproduce similar in-depth dark colors owing to a lower contrast ratio.

Sound Quality

Both TVs feature objective tracking sound. With two top and two bottom built-in TV speakers, they are capable of adjusting the sound to follow the action. However, when it comes to bass, Q90T’s bass performance can be a bit lackluster sometimes. That’s probably why I’ve felt that the Q80T is better than the Q90T in terms of sound quality.

Operating System

This is another thing where both the TVs are identical. Both – the Q80T and the Q90 – come with Samsung’s Tizen OS. It gives you access to various apps, including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, Browser, and more.
