Samsung SSD T5 vs T7 – PointWise Comparison

Now, let’s do a point-wise comparison between the Samsung T5 vs T7 to know more about the differences between the two Samsung SSDs.

#1. Design

While both SSDs look and feel quite similar when it comes to their design, the T5 is a bit smaller and lighter than the T7. The dimensions of T5 are 2.91 x 2.25 x 0.41 inches and it weighs 1.79 pounds. The T7, on the other hand, is taller but thinner at 3.34 x 2.24 x 0.31 inches. It weighs 2.04 pounds. Another difference is that there’s also a touch variant of the T7 that features a square-shaped fingerprint reader with a blue ‘Motion LED’ to indicate the status of the SSD. When it comes to the build and construction, the Samsung T5 comes with an aluminum shell paired with plastic panels on the side. The T7, on the other hand, features an all-aluminum finish.

Another difference is the color choices on these SSDs. The T5 is available in Alluring Blue (250GB and 500GB) and Deep Black (1TB and 2TB). The T7 comes in Indigo Blue, Titan Gray, and Metallic Red colors (500GB, 1TB, and 2TB). Lastly, the T7 Touch is available in Black and Silver (500GB, 1TB, and 2TB).

#2. Speed

This one is the most obvious difference between the T5 and T7 portable SSDs. When it comes to how fast they can read and write data, the Samsung T7 is almost twice as fast as the older T5. The T7 offers up to 1,050MB/s read speeds and 1,000MB/s write speeds. On the other hand, the T5 is can reach only up to 505MB/s (read) and 480MB/s (write) speeds.

#3. Security

While both SSDs offer AES 256-bit encryption so that you can password protect them using Samsung’s Magician software, only the T7 Touch comes with a built-in fingerprint scanner. Therefore, the T7 Touch is the most secure of the lot.

#4. Cost

Since the Samsung T7 is the newer and more advanced model, its price is usually higher than the T5. But, you may get lucky if there’s an offer on Amazon (as it’s available now) that gives it to you at a cheaper price. So, it’s advisable that you check the current prices of both models before making a buying decision.

Which SSD Should You Buy?

If you want to know which one is the best SSD of the lot, then I would say that the T7 Touch is the most secure as well as a highly advanced option. Now, considering the fact that the current selling price of the T5 and T7 is almost the same, I wouldn’t recommend getting the T5 as of now. As you know that the T7 is more advanced, you should definitely go for it.

When it comes to the T7 Touch, it’s much more expensive. Therefore, I would recommend the T7 Touch only to those who are highly concerned about data security and cannot afford any compromises.
