SanDisk vs Samsung SSD
While there’s a minimal difference between the two SSDs, from personal experience I feel that SanDisk SSDs are generally the more durable of the two. Therefore, a SanDisk SSD is usually the better choice if you want to use your SSD device on the go. Samsung SSDs, on the other hand, are known for their awesome data migration software.
So, which one will you choose? I’m sure that after looking at the below pointwise comparison, you’ll be able to make a wise buying decision.
Design
The overall design of your SSD, which includes its shell or casing is usually the first thing that you’ll notice in a new SSD. This is the factor where both Samsung and SanDisk perform exceedingly well. But, it’s also the distinguishing factor between the two.
The SanDisk SSDs are usually covered in rubber all around. This makes them capable of taking a lot of wear and tear. Even if you happen to drop a SanDisk SSD, the chances of it breaking are very slim. Coming to Samsung SSD, the main focus of the brand seems to be making the drive small and lightweight. Although Samsung SSDs are usually the better looking of the two, the casing honestly doesn’t look very resilient.
Therefore, the winner is SanDisk when it comes to the design of the SSD.
Speed
Speed is the primary reason why one thinks of opting for an SSD device. A good SSD drive should be able to have a faster read and write speed than other forms of storage. Both Samsung and SanDisk perform well in this area.
While SanDisk claims read/write speeds of up to 1000-2000 MB/s in its SSDs, Samsung SSDs offer anywhere between (up to) 540 MB/s and 1050 MB/s. But, in the real-world scenario, both devices would likely return speeds of around 400-450MB/s.
So, there’s a minimal difference between the two in this aspect.
Warranty
SSDs, in general, tend to be super reliable across the board. They may last you for a good 10 years provided you take good care of them.
Both Samsung & SanDisk offer a comprehensive three-year warranty for all their SSDs. So, there’s really not much difference here either.
Price
Again, the SSDs of both brands are priced very competitively. The SSD models that feature similar read/write speeds and capacity are usually marketed at a similar price range.
So, choosing one of the two is difficult if you consider the pricing aspect.
Which SSD Should You Choose?
As mentioned before, both Samsung and SanDisk offer some pretty solid choices when it comes to SSD devices. But, simply due to a better design which makes SanDisk SSDs capable of taking a lot of wear and tear, I would recommend buying a device from the SanDisk brand. SanDisk SSD models are likely going to be more durable for you in the long run. You’ll feel confident that it won’t break even when you’re traveling. My personal favorite is the SanDisk Extreme SSD.
But again, this is a personal preference. Since both brands offer products that are pretty similar to one another and are marketed at the same price, you won’t go wrong if you choose an SSD from either of the two companies.
